The next morning G. took J. and I to a quintessential Anchorage restaurant – Gwennies.
If you read the web reviews – people either love it or not. A lot of people describe it as a not-very-fancy diner with dead animals on the wall. But others say that’s what makes it so Alaskan. The walls were jammed with pictures and newspaper articles about Anchorage/Alaska history and also Iditarod history. Fascinating. Would’ve been fun to have read all of them.
To get the true experience of Gwennies, you should have the reindeer sausage omelet which I didn’t, but I did have eggs and reindeer sausage. Once you get past the realization you’re eating Rudolph, it’s quite good.
Good start to a day that just kept getting better and better.
