A few years ago while out in California, I took a drive to Monterey in my P.T. Cruiser rental car. I was extremely out of my comfort zone – being many, many miles away from where I was staying – in a car that was unfamiliar.
But when I got to Monterey, I saw a sign that said “Big Sur – 30 miles” and having always wanted to go to Big Sur, I headed down the road – for awhile.
Now, on this day a few weeks ago, I learned something. I had gotten a taste of Big Sur that other day, but I had also missed a lot of it.
However – the always present marine layer was back and we wondered if we’d see anything.
Big Sur is located along the central California coast at the place where the Santa Lucia Mountains come up out of the Pacific Ocean. The name itself means “the big country of the south.” One of Big Sur’s landmarks are the arch bridges built between the rocky peaks.
But again, we couldn’t really see any of that – at first.
